Rick was referred to Writing Nights by Trey Ratcliff, world-famous Smithsonian-exhibited photographer whose book Writing Nights helped take to #1 in Popular Culture on Amazon.

Rick was not new to publishing. Photo Therapy, Motivation and Wisdom is his 40th book.

Rick prized urgency. He'd worked with publishers in the past, and he didn't want to get hung up in the bureaucratic red tape that often envelopes a book. He had one non-negotiable: he wanted speed without having to sacrifice quality. This was not an issue for us. Because our processes have been stress-tested over hundreds of books, they are flexible enough to reliably produce polished books in compressed timelines.

Photo Therapy was specially conceived. In addition to being Rick's 40th book, it is also one of the few Rick would publish that do not include his award-winning photographs. Rick intentionally eschewed including his photographs because he believed the creative spirit at the heart of the art of photography is better expressed without the all-too-human competitiveness that including his own photography would have provoked. Rick wanted people to imagine their own pictures—or potential pictures—while he described best-in-class process. While he educated photography enthusiasts about framing, focus, shutter speed, and light and color therapy, he didn't want them distracted by comparison or competition—those thieves of joy, those enemies of learning.

The entire publishing process for Photo Therapy—from manuscript to publication—was completed in three months.

Photo Therapy, Motivation and Wisdomis one of a handful of books we published that earned multiple spots on the best-seller lists. This title was #1 and #3 in Photographer Essays for a few weeks.

The success of Photo Therapy led to Writing Nights collaborating with Rick on three more books, two of which also earned best-seller placements.
